The Plasma Shaft is a 2CD box-set compilation album released only in Australia and Japan in 1994, with it's first CD being the original Blood Sugar Sex Magik album and the second one consisting of 8 tracks previously released as b-sides to the five singles of the album, three of them being studio tracks that were left out of the album in 1991, a live performance of "Nobody Weird Like Me", the radio edits of "If You Have to Ask" and "Breaking the Girl", a remix version of "If You Have to Ask" and an unfinished version of "Give It Away" taken from the Funky Monks documentary.

While The Plasma Shaft was released only in Australia and Japan, Live Rare Remix Box was released in the same year, featuring 3 CDs and a completer collection of the Blood Sugar Sex Magik B-sides. The Plasma Shaft does however include the radio edits of "If You Have to Ask" and "Breaking the Girl", which are missing on Live Rare Remix Box.
