"This is a collection of two separate sessions. The first eight songs are an early demo tape made circa 1,986. The rest are early instrumental versions from the final album sessions in mid 1,987. Note that tracks 8 and 9 are the same song, yet the production quality changes drastically between the two. Missing from the early sessions is the demo of 'Behind The Sun' which was released on the 2,003 remaster.
The version of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' shown here appears to be an alternate take to the final album version.
It's not too clear where this came from or how the tracks were put together, but the pre-Warner Bros. era of the band is criminally under documented, so any help would be appreciated. They seem to be sourced from a cassette, but the transfer is incredibly well done; perhaps it leaked out when the band were preparing the 2,003 remasters, or from a James Slovak auction? Who knows. The mystery surrounds us all."
